Me, My Kids & I

Me, My Kids & I is a suite of parenting programs for parents and children held in local community centres or at the Journey Social Hub in Queanbeyan.

All of our programs and accompanying resources are underpinned by a philosophy of promoting and supporting respectful, caring and nurturing relationships between parents and their children. Parents and carers are always encouraged to become more reflective and mindful in their parenting approach.


Parenting Program– not currently running at this time

Duration 1½ hours per session for 4 sessions
Group size minimum of 4 and maximum of 10 people

Program includes:

  • learning more about the origins of your own parenting style;
  • understanding how to be a more effective at parenting;
  • identifying the important messages you want to convey to your children and how to achieve this;
  • tools to take care of your children;
  • learning more about brain development in children and its influence on their thoughts, feelings and behaviour;
  • understanding the meaning of children’s behaviour;
  • overcoming some of the obstacles in the way of being the kind of parent you would like to be; and
  • discovering ways for to take care of yourself as a parent and to find support when you need it.

Parenting through Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Program – not currently running at this time

Duration 1½ hours per session for 4 sessions
Group size minimum of 4 and maximum of 10 people

Program includes:

  • what is Domestic and Family Violence (DFV)?;
  • understanding children’s behaviour who have witnessed violence or are experiencing trauma;
  • how to write a safety plan;
  • tools to take care of yourself;
  • tools to take care of your children;
  • how to find support when you need it;
  • how to pack an emergency suitcase;
  • preparing to leave a violent house;
  • support to stay in a house where domestic violence has occurred;
  • harm minimisation; and
  • how to stay safe after leaving a violent environment.

Peer Program- not currently running at this time

Duration ½ hour per session for 4-5 sessions
Group size 5 people

Location school in a peer group environment
Runs based on demand

Program includes:

  • young people’s feelings;
  • understanding anger;
  • tools and strategies to manage anger;
  • breathwork; and
  • how to stay safe if people in the home are angry.

Each of the programs are divided into modules which can be run in an adaptable format over a number of weeks depending on the needs of the parents and carers who participate.
